Uni requirements for Maths

Hi, I am going to be studying at Engineering at Uni, however all of these schools are a grade 6 minimum at GCSE Maths, I achieved a 5. I applied to my sixthform to do A level Maths, and they accepted me with a technicality (not important) I have been predicted an A and most 100% will get an A. But will my GCSE Maths still stop me from getting into these uni? as surely they would value an A level maths grade more than GCSE?

Question-Will a grade 6 GCSE maths required accept an A at a level maths in alternative

A level Maths will usually surpass any specific GCSE grade requirement - BUT that doesn't mean that top/competitive Unis will not use your GCSE grade as part of their assessment/scoring as a way of gauging a) your general aptitude for Maths, and b) your likelihood of getting an A grade A level.

Thanks for the response, I am eligible for contextual and have NHS and Private Therapist letters stating why my GCSE’s should not be taken into account whilst being considered for University. So i am hoping this can suppress any thoughts they have regarding the results. I have a feeling they will be more inclusive with my application due to this. as I only have a average of 5 at GCSE despite me being predicted DDD for Btec and A at Maths and A at Physics. Any thoughts on this?

Your UCAS school reference needs to mention any reasons for weak GCSEs.
And you need to look for any forms that you need to complete for each specific Uni you are applying to - example Extenuating circumstances | Study at Bristol | University of Bristol - and send these to them at the same time as you submit your UCAS application.

Thank you so much 🙂

I’ll get to completing the forms now, I was never alerted of this, and was only told to get references.

Have a great day
