What else should I do for medicine?

Hi, I’m currently in year 12 and wondering if there is anything else I should do to improve my med school application.
I am doing bio, chemistry and maths for my A levels. I am being predicted A* for EPQ. I’m have done something called Scholars programme by the brilliant club (which is writing a 2500 word essay about a topic that we have been taught by a person with a PHD) I have been volunteering in the hospital since Jan and doing a week of work experience shadowing a few doctors. I did hockey for 3 years. My GCSEs are 9 in maths 8 in chemistry 7 in DT, bio and physics, 6 in lit and 5 in language. Also D2 in Engineering and IT (which is like a 7-8 in number grades).
I think this is decent but I want it to be better.

When it comes to writing your personal statement and interviews, they want to know more about what you got out of these experiences so leadership, empathy, working under pressure are skills that they are looking for - so try looking for roles like being a prefect at school or a summer job which include these factors. Also you might want to have a look at med school gcse requirements, I believe quite a few have a minimum grade 6 for GCSEs. But i think what you’ve already done is great! Hope this helps!

I thought it would be too late. Is it possible to retake in year 13 even after sending the UCAS?

Yes. Some med schools will not accept GCSE resits and some only if done within 1yr of the original exams, but others are fine with resits. You would just list your achieved grade and another one as pending on UCAS and then one of your offer conditions would be to have the required grade in Eng Lang as well as your A levels
