Owners who do not microchip cats face £500 fines

Reply 1

RSCPA and similar charities should be shutdown and the BBC should have had an equal view arguing against this as it's supposed to be impartial.
Cats should have got chipped and not dogs.

and does this mean vets are going to be snitches or will there be bounties for those catching unchipped cats?

Good. It's the law that all dogs should be microchipped, so I don't see why cats should be exempt.

I've no strong feelings but think £500 sounds a bit opportunistic and Tory.

Why should animal welfare charities be shut down?

Right idea, stupid execution.

"Oh look we have found a cat that's not microchipped"
"Okay, we should fine the owner 500 quid."
"Great idea. Whose cat is it?"
"Don't know. It's not microchipped."

Idiots

Well that's just stupid. What are we having next? Microchipping children? Everybody?

If it's not chipped it can get sent to the local shelter for pickup or whatever else they do with stray cats.

Damn… with comprehensive and nuanced arguments like that you could join the Conservative policy team.

Rishi Sunak - "We are cutting taxes everyone"
Meanwhile - "We are creating stupid fines so everyone has to pay a lot of money for useless problems that don't exist"

For one glorious moment I almost thought that the thread title was Owners of cats face £500 fines. :daydreaming:
If only.

It's about time that the owners of cats were legally required to microchip as dog owners have been since 2016.
