Can my dad be classed as disabled for this?

My dad has had Chronic lymphocytic leukemia for a few years. He is also diabetic and has struggled with lower back pain. He struggles to work due to his back pain and cannot bend properly as it hurts his back. He is around 55 years old now. Can we get a blue badge to help with parking for him and can he claim any disability benefits / get a note from the dr to say he cant work as many hours. He is struggling a lot physically but we need his income but if he can be classed as disabled our rent etc will decrease slightly to help him.

You might be able to get a blue badge, but your dad needs to speak to his doctor about it. If the doctor thinks that your dad should be eligible for one, he/she will sign the form for a blue badge. The same goes for the sick notes for work. I am not an expert but it is likely that your dad would be able to claim some disability benefits. I hope things work out for you
You’re disabled under the Equality Act 2010 if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.

‘substantial’ is more than minor or trivial, eg it takes much longer than it usually would to complete a daily task like getting dressed
‘long-term’ means 12 months or more, eg a breathing condition that develops as a result of a lung infection

However, you automatically meet the disability definition under the Equality Act 2010 from the day you’re diagnosed with HIV infection, cancer or multiple sclerosis.

I would say yes but it is obviously determined on a case to case basis but definitely classifies as disabled for reduced rent (might need a letter don't know the process) and the blue badge is worth applying for
