English Language Help!

(predicted grade 9, got a grade 8 in a recent assessment)

I just wanted to share something that helped me SOOO MUCH, as someone whi struggles with not knowing what to write about with creative writing!

CHOOSE A BASE STORY!

What i mean by this:
- find a book you find interesting, or you think that has good structural techniques
- choose a compelling chapter (i would go for beginning or end chapters, as they are usually made to draw in the reader or are cliff hangers)
- I then either annotate the excerpt ( I did this for the first chapter of 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥𝘴 by 𝘚𝘤𝘰𝘵𝘵 𝘞𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 ) or research the said beginning/ending chapter on why it was an effective opening/cliff hanger. However, the research doesn’t feel like a chore to me because i really enjoy the book!

Then, in the exam I adapt this base to the question, and that’s how I got a grade 8 for my most recent assessment!

p.s. i usually dont look at the description question, as i understand that I lack the creativity to make a compelling description most times. (however, dont rule it out completely, as it may be the best option for you in the moment!)

thank u for reading this far!

Just be careful that whatever you’re writing links clearly with the prompt, you will lose marks if your story or description does not match the prompt/they can clearly tell you have pre written something and forced it to link with the prompts.
