Confused

Can someone please clarify the following:
do you have to do As inorder to do A (cambridge international a level)
•do you have to do the exam in may/June inorder to be able to do it in September/October
do unis (specifically cambridge and oxford) hate it and I mean HATE it (ie. you won't even be considered) if you repeat
Thank you in advance 😊💕

Is the sixth form you are applying to offering A levels and AS levels separately? Because at my Sixth Form, only AS level Maths and Further Maths were offered. Everyone taking the full A level took the AS, so regardless of if and when you dropped out, your learning wouldn’t be a waste. However, for all the other subjects, no one could take AS. Because of my scores in the AS exams, some of the universities I applied to improved their offer, so if you can take a fourth subject as an AS, I would look to see if any potential universities you may go to take AS scores into account when writing offers.

You do not need to take the AS of a subject to take the A level. Most people don’t take the AS exams.

Cambridge and Oxford want at least 3 full A levels.

Thank you for your reply, I'm planning on studying the A level cambridge international course independently. I'm planning on doing chemistry biology physics and Maths. Since I'm not a UK citizen I am unaware of how the education system works there. Where I live we only have one exam for each subject done in what is equivalent to 6th form. When I did my research on A Levels I was greeted with some confusing information: AS vs A and how the exam is sat in both may and October. I also learned that some colleges do not like repeats. From your response I understood that I would not have to do AS, rather instead i can do just A. Thank you so much for bringing this to me! 😊💕 however I am so confused on whether I have to sit the exams in May or would I be able to set them in October?

In England, exams are taken in May/June, and retakes are in October/November. Hope that helps! 🙂

Are these A levels modular or linear? In England our A levels don't rely on AS anymore. You need to check the specification.
