Bro I’m pretty sure you can get in. Which are you planning on going to? Its best to look at their requirements and possibly email the school, see what grades you would typically need.

Yes, it's true as your GCSE grades are significantly lower than the average, perhaps you can resit Maths and English Language as it would allow you to have a chance to get in. However, they may be lenient as you mentioned that you have a chronic illness.

I cannot resit until November after applying

Oh, then do more extracurriculars related to education like math challenges and English writing competitions, as it would demonstrate a good understanding over those areas which your GCSE grades may not show.

Your GCSEs are fine. There will be some med schools you cannot apply to as they score GCSEs for shortlisting or have minimin requirements above your achievements, but there will be more than 4 left that will not care - some only need a B in Eng Lang. You will however need a good UCAT to compensate

You cannot comensate for a weaker area in an application by doing other things, unless both those things are scored in shortlisting, eg GCSEs and UCAT. Doing essays and challenges will do nothing to "top up" weaker GCSEs. People need to apply strategically to med schools that fit their strengths

Do you know any unis that don’t heavily look at GCSEs?

Have a look at the links on the first post here, but bear in mind they have not been updated for a few years. They will give you a reasonable idea

Ur gcses dont matter anymore, if ur getting AAA then they have nothing to complain about, its just that higher GCSEs get u higher predicted grades for ur UCAS application, but seems like u have put the work in and got amazing straight A's for ur mocks supposedly- dont let anyone tell u otherwise, even a teacher, u can still prove them all wrong

Well, GCSEs do matter for applying to medicine at many med schools. But OP still has options and their teacher is wrong that their GCSEs mean they should not apply

You can definitely get in medical school. Exeter med school for example only asks for a 6 in English language. UCL and kings's college London only ask for a 6 in maths and English. I also have very low gcse grades and I am applying this year! Honestly nothing is impossible. Gcses don't really matter as much as A levels and the ucat. Many teachers and people also told me to not apply to med school and told me I should do nursing or something else.

I also have low gcses agree with everything you said even teachers saying u cant do it however kcl scores gcses so maybe that isnt the best example

It’s possible. Hard but very possible. You’d have a better chance if you do widening participation programs if you’re eligible as those can get you lowered grade requirements and guaranteed offers.

Hi, it really depends on where you're wanting to apply. Most med schools what 5 7s however if you look at individual entry requirements on university websites you'll find there are med schools that don't weight GCSEs as heavily and just want you to have passed everything with a minimum of 6s in math, sciences and English language. There are also universities that don't look at individual grades but look overall using a scoring system so there are definitely places you can apply and have a good chance at getting offers. Hope this helped and good luck!!!
