Sfe maintenance loan only £277

I'm a returning student going into first year after foundation year. Last year i got the maximum maintenance loan. This year sfe offered me £4k which is the minimum amount but after sending my parents' financial information they lowered it to £277 which is literally insane. I need the maximum amount just to cover my accommodation. My parents' income increased but they have so many expenses that they can barely pay bills so there is absolutely no way in hell they can help me. I'm going to call sfe tomorrow, but has anyone been in a similar situation?

I have just received a letter saying I've been overpaid. I need the full amount of maintenance loan though. My parents cannot support me financially as they are barely able to support themselves. Is there anything i can do?

Hi there,

Have they said why you have been overpaid or advised you on any evidence to send? Did you maybe apply for current year Income last year?

Thanks, Drew

Yes i applied for a current year income assessment last year and got the maximum amount. In the letter it said that since my parents made more than estimated i have to pay back over £4k. But my parents weren't able and still aren't able to support me as their expenses exceed what they earn (a sad truth for many families in the uk). And even if i manage to get a bursary from my university, it still won't cover my rent

Hi Martyna,

If you applied for the Current Year Income last year do you know if your sponsors completed the PR2 form and have uploaded them with their P60s for the 2023/24 tax year? Have your sponsors received any emails asking for evidence?

Thanks, Drew

Yes, they sent everything but I've been told to send the pr2 form again because the numbers on the form weren't clear enough since it was filled out digitally

Hi Martyna,

At least you know what the issue is and if the PR2 form is approved it can remove the overpayment.

Thanks, Drew
