study abroad maintenance loan lower than normal

hi, i'll be studying abroad in Japan during my third year as required of my degree. i live away from my parents and study in London, i am only entitled to the minimum amount of maintenance loan which is just over £6k i believe. i already struggled with this amount as i don't get enough extra support from my parents and living in central London is extremely expensive :/ i also have dyspraxia which makes it already difficult to get work in on the deadlines n keep up with revising, never mind having a job (i had one during 6th and it was difficult, never mind in uni where i'm already struggling without one). i'm in the process of applying for a DSA for my second year, but i don't believe they'd help me out monetarily. researching into what i'd be receiving, i found out i'd only be eligible for £5.6k, which is even less than now!! i'd always assumed i'd be getting more for my year abroad and that's what people had told me... i don't think ill be eligible for any income from external sources either due to my household income, only thing i can leverage is that i come from a postcode with low progression to higher edu and smt else i believe, but i don't think i can do anything with that bcs of our income... is there really anything i can do? this isn't extra funding on top of the regular maintenance loan, right? ahhh idk what to do :frown: any advice/help? im definitely gonna look into getting a job next year but i'll likely be sacrificing my grades :frown:

Hi there,

Are you under 25? Have you self supported for 3 years before your course started?

Thanks,
Claire

Hi there, Based on the information you have provided you are already receiving the maximum funding from Student Finance England. I would suggest speaking to the finance team to see if they can provide any further support. Thanks, Angela
