Taking off heels due to floor damage

Would you take off your heels at someone's house or other location if your worn down heels were damaging the wooden floor? Say it is a shoes-on event where you will be the only one without shoes on, but your stilettos are worn down to the metal nail. I love wearing my heeled boots everywhere and often do not have time to fix the heel tips.
