Special consideration

During one of my a level sociology exams, i felt quite unwell and asked to go to the toilet, and ended up fainting and hitting my head quite hard on the ground, and ended up not finishing the exam. I’ve missed a whole section worth 40 marks and the exam officer had said she is going to apply for special consideration, but does anyone know how they would apply it???

Have a read of "A guide to the special consideration process 2023/24 General and Vocational qualifications".

What you described probably best matches "illness at the time of the examination" or "concussion", both of which would result in a 2% allowance being applied to the impacted paper (not the whole subject).

There is also a mechanism whereby they can award you a grade based upon just 2 of the 3 papers, but that appears to only apply, "When a candidate has missed a timetabled component/unit for acceptable reasons". As you didn't miss this exam, I suspect that this wouldn't apply.

The rules are not fixed in stone, and the exam boards will consider each situation on its merits.
