Postgraduate loan for university funded student

Hello,

I am a 2nd year PhD student. I am looking at applying for the postgraduate doctoral loan but want to make sure I am eligible.

I get some funding from the university but they have confirmed this is purely faculty-funded internally - they/I do not receive any external funding from research councils/UKRI. I meet all the other criteria. Can I check whether I am eligible please?

HI there,

Can you confirm the course and university you're studying? How long is the course? When did it start? Is it full time or part time?

Can you confirm you nationality? What qualifications do you hold?

Thanks,
Claire

Sure, I’m at Keele university doing a PhD in nursing - full time over 3 years. It started in November 2022.

I am British and only have an undergraduate in midwifery otherwise.

Thank you.

Hi there,

You would be still eligible for funding but you would need to apply for the 2022/23 academic year as that is when your course started. You should try and do this on your online account but if you are unable to then you can complete the form and post it back to us. Once received it can take 6-8 weeks to process.

Thanks for your help!

One final question - if I initially wanted to request the full amount but later on decide I don't need it all and want to reduce the amount, how does that work? Would I keep the payments already made and the future ones would be reduced? Or would I have to repay some and then the lower amount be split equally for the rest of my course?

I hope that makes sense, thank you in advance.

Hi there. Yes, you can't apply for less than what you have already been paid, so you would keep the payments you received and the remainder of the payments would be reduced. Thanks, Leah.
