OCD

Hey, lately I feel as though I may have OCD but I don’t want to seem crazy if I say it to someone and it isn’t. I have quite bad health anxiety and sometimes get scared of germs or being contaminated by someone else germs. I also have really repetitive behaviours like having to count to a multiple of ten before getting out the showers and tons of other things but I don’t know why I do it. I also overthink A LOT. I would like to know why people tend to have OCD as in is it due to trauma or a way of thinking. I just don’t know what to do. I understand that obviously seeking medical advice would be most appropriate but I’m young and would like to know from those who have experienced it themselves and can help me out a bit.

Hi,
I have a friend who has OCD and he ruminates a lot. I think like other conditions not everybody with OCD will have the same symptoms-sort of like a spectrum of symptoms that could occur. He finally sought therapy after I had been telling him for months. Then he got diagnosed with OCD. We didn't know he had that beforehand, just that he really had a hard time worrying/ ruminating all the time. He has a good therapist now. She treats him using CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and he's been doing this for two years now and says that he's really happy he has tools now to deal with stuff. He also sees his therapist once a week (online).
