Sixth Form Travel

Okay so I'll likely have to take a train to my selected sixth forms and was wondering what people found to be the best financially - for example, what railway card types they recommend, when to actually get on - like earlier or later. I may be able to take the bus, which has a free bus card, but I get really travel sick on buses and cars, so train is ideal

Thanks!

my sixth form is/was now that we’re finished an hour bus ride away. i didn’t have an issue with cost because my dad works for said bus company (i’m a local nepo baby😭) but my friends managed to get bus passes or train bursaries assigned to them due to the distance. if your sixth form has any sort of financial help offers like free school meals or school trip bursaries they likely could have travel finance help too. also depends where you are i think, but look into travel cards through your train network. there’s a 16-17 50% saver for £30 a year in the SE so might be the same elsewhere.

Yeah I have looked those over, I'll probably end up doing the saved one you mentioned, but thanks on the buss pass info !

Hi I take the train to sixthform

16-17 savers give 50% off. 16-25 rail card gives 33% (1/3) off. Buy a 16-17 savers first. When it expires buy a 16-25 rail card. If the option is available, instead of buying a ticket every day but a seasonal ticket. Typically the options available are weekly, monthly or yearly. These will most likely be cheaper than buying a ticket each day. I found the most cost effective was a weekly ticket. Though different train lines have different apps the best is app to check train times, delays and cancellations is trainline. Also depending on where you are (I use south eastern rails) they may have a delay refund section on their app you can use. On southeastern it’s called “one click delay repay”. You add the train journeys your typically take and if the train is delayed for more than a certain amount of time or cancelled it will inform you if your entitled to any refund

WOAH this is so helpful, I really appreciate it! I didn't know about the app or refund stuff linked to it, so I'll definitely look into that!
