Help with Internet addiction

I am doing my gcses right now and only now am I realising I have an Internet addiction. I only realised now when I gave my phone away. I'm saying a internet addiction because it's not just YouTube or tiktok that I have been addicted to it is also kdramas, shows and anime. In the half-term I did 4-7 hours of revision when I could have used the time wasted on Internet. But I know someone who binge watched XO kitty during their gcses. So I don't know if I should 'allow' my self rest. I know if I watch a kdrama/anime/show I will want to finish it so everytime I feel like watching a show I say no but I can't seem to stop scrolling through YouTube.

best thing I can say is you can put a parent lock on your phone and have your friend / roommate be the one to set up how much time you can spend on yt TikTok or other streaming platform and you cant get the pass word for 1 month then they give you the password then see if your still addicted if you are 1 more month then you can see in that time that there's more to life then being stuff looking at a screen

There's this useful app/chrome extension called "Stayfree" - it allows u to set time limits and block certain apps - they have a focus mode feature where you can block out apps for certain amount of time period (for me, my focus time is 6:00 - 20:00). It even has a pin protection - so you can ask a family member to input a pin which prevent you from changing around the settings.

Try Opal or Stayfree if you want to. But honestly, 4-5 hours is probably pretty normal, but that’s because most people nowadays have an internet addiction. For reference, when I was doing my GCSE's, I was watching anime for roughly 10 hours a day, which wasn’t great for my grades, to be honest. So just know it could be worse but trying to fix it before it’s that bad is a good idea though.

Lool i relate so much to watching anime/kdramas instead of doing my work 😅

I just finished my a levels and i stopped using tiktok for a month (after realising i was literally spending 24 hours a week on it).

Sometimes u just have to disipline yourself. Ask yourself -- is it really worth watching Xo Kitty when you could be sacrificing a higher GCSE grade?

As someone who just finished year 13, i've seen people lose out on uni offers because their GCSE grades were not high enough (top schools care about GCSE grades too). So i know i sound harsh but you need to make a choice for yourself.

Since you're addicted, i suggest quitting watching kdramas and anime for the rest of your GCSEs since they take up alot of time. Keep watching normal shows that you aren't extremely invested in as a substitute.

When you are ready to learn, use the app FLORA. It tracks the amount of time you revise per day. For example, i did 8 hours last thursday and then 2 hours last Friday. This way, you'll know exactly how many hours you're sacrificing everyday and actually want to work harder.

Good luck for the rest of your exams -- i'm happy to answer more questions on anything.
