When moving to uni and starting to think about what you need to bring it can be a little overwhelming thinking of all the things you need to buy. It can add up, so I thought I would share where I shopped to keep things on the cheaper side:
Car boot sales – This was the main place I sourced my stuff for moving to uni. I found it best for kitchen items, such as utensils, pots, pans and bedroom accessories like mirrors and lamps. Everything I bought was under a £2/£1 with most things being 50p and some even 20p. The best place to find the information about car boot sales near you is on Facebook.
Charity shops – Like car boot sales charity shops are another cheap option, although not as cheap as 20p, they are usually open all week so you can go anytime unlike car boot sales. I found charity shops good for finding glasses and again kitchen equipment.
Facebook marketplace/Vinted/Depop/eBay – These where another go-to as I could look from home online for cheap second-hand items and I even found lots of brand-new items still in the packaging, such as laundry bags, bedroom accessories and pans.
B&M, Home Bargains, Poundland – Lots of cheap bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom supplies.
TKmaxx – Lots of great things to be found here, usually for a reasonable price and unique items which is good for halls so you can easily identify your things.
Primark – I find there are lots of cute, cheap bedroom accessories, plus bedding and towels.
Asda/Tesco/Sainsburys – I think you can find a lot of things you need in these shops for a reasonable price.
Ikea – This is known for being the place to go and while having everything you need in one place and being cheap, for me I found that I didn’t want to have the same stuff as everyone else so I could easily identify it and it didn’t get lost in halls. However, if you just want to get it all done in one trip then this is the place to go.
I hope this helps and feel free to share any recommendations you may have or somewhere I might have missed 😊
