Final year module

Hi,

In my final year of university, I have 6 core modules and no optional modules. However, through my university grading process, my 5 highest module grades (got to include the dissertation) in the final year and the best 4 in the second year, determines my final graduation grade. Therefore, 1 module in my final year will not count toward my final grade.

This particular module had assignments due in January 2024, which at the time I tried my best to complete, but I was unable to and I got an extenuating circumstances extension till July 2024. The module is very difficult for me. It’s extremely maths based with equations and heavily uses excel formulae’s etc. There were no entry requirements to the course and I only got the lowest pass grade for maths at GCSE. After not using excel since year 9 and not doing any meaningful maths since year 11, I found the module very difficult. I’m going to be faced with the same situation in being unable to complete it in July.

About 60% of the 2 assignments is maths excel equations based which I simply cannot comprehend or do. The other 40%’s is essay work which i completed in January.

A similar module was in my second year which I only got 40% (lowest pass mark) in it (I’m normally at the 60’s-70’s% range).

My question is, due to how my final university grade will not even use this module that I struggle with, what would happen if I didn’t complete the module and failed it? Will I still be able to graduate? It’s literally not even relevant to me as i have no interest in the module and it will be my lowest grade and will not be included in my final grade.

I can submit the written parts, but even then that would not be enough to pass the assignments.

Thank you!

i’m pretty sure you need to complete all modules with at least a pass

Hi,

Most assignments have to achieve at least a pass (40%), and you may be able to retake if you do fail but normally this is capped at 40%.

I would recommend that you book a tutorial with your lecturer and let them know that your struggling. I have found when I've really struggled with assignments, that when I've sat down and talked it through with my lecturers that it has really helped.

You've still got a while till the deadline, so you have time to get some help and not struggle alone! You've nearly finished now, you've got this! Just remember asking for help is not a bad thing, and can be honestly really beneficial

Good Luck,
