I’m pregnant - but can’t work out my due date?

Hi,
I found out I was pregnant 4 days ago! However, my cycles are longer than average at 39-45 days each time (PCOS).
I ovulated this cycle on CD25, and my last period was 05/05.
Using my last period, doctors have assumed i’m currently 5w 5d, and so me and partner have booked in for an early scan at 6w for reassurance.
However, after reading that this is based on a 28 day cycle, i’m extremely confused! They’ve estimated my due date to be 9th Feb. Do i go off my last period? or do i go off of when I ovulated?
Surely if my follicular phase is longer than 2 weeks, I cannot be nearly 6 weeks?
Help!

You go by the first day of your last period.

Hi, I am not a mother but I am pretty sure that your conception date is based on the day your last period started, not when it ended. There is a site you can use which has been specifically designed for pregnancy and there is a calculator on there which can tell you your due date based on your last period, you only need to put in the date of when your last period started (can be any date) however, you stated that you have PCOS so it may not be accurate for you, and it will then tell you how many weeks pregnant you are the website is called whattoexpect and there is lots of resources on there too. I strongly suggest that the most effective way to find out your due date would be to attend your scan, this can give an idea of how many weeks pregnant you are based on the size and development of the baby, you probably already know this but you aren't actually pregnant until week 3 of pregnancy. I am no expert but I strongly suggest that the most effective way of finding out your due date is by attending your 6 week scan, sorry if I am wrong but like I said I am no expert and I'm just going by what I know

You see, they use this estimate as it is also meant to include ovulation. It is based on a 28 day cycle. I didn’t ovulate until CD25, so can’t see how this would be accurate?

Yeah, i’ve got a private scan booked for monday, i’ll be supposedly 6 weeks and 1 day. Just worried they won’t find anything because of me ovulating late and having long cycles! I honestly feel like going off of when my last period started has to be inaccurate because I ovulated so late 😣 it’s all based on a 28 day cycle and mine are 39.

I'm also pregnant, due towards the end of this year. If your cycle is longer and you have PCOS, ignore all the typical advice and just follow what your early scan shows until your midwife confirms the final date (they confirmed mine at my 12 week scan).

I have a perfectly cyclical period and initially calculated my due date to be Nov 15th based on my period, but the early scan showed it was actually a week later because the baby was smaller - I was 6 weeks when I thought I was 7 weeks because I must have ovulated late. When I started seeing the midwife, she dismissed the early scan and in my 12 week scan, she finally determined my due date to be Nov 20th. They base the due date on the size of the baby in your scans, so until then, the period date doesn't really matter because ovulation can happen later than expected.

Hi daisy 👋 👋

Congratulations on your baby news 😘.

To work out your exact due date then you go by the First Day Of Your Last PERIOD .

So you said that you found out four days ago you were pregnant - so I think going on what you have said about things you are approximately 6 weeks pregnant.....

Your scan will confirm things for you,
Get in touch with your GP practice midwife for appointments okay and they will look after you.

Below is the NHS pregnancy due date calculator Web link. That's what NHS goes by.

Thanks for the advice.

I had my early scan - and I was correct. They cannot go from my last period because I have long cycles and a long follicular phase.
I am measuring at 4wk6d rather than almost 7 weeks.

Going back in 3 weeks for another scan as all they could see was the sac!

No worries 🙂 🙂
Hopefully the next scan will be more accurate than the one you just had as normally don't do scans so early.

Hopefully everyone will go smoothly for your pregnancy.
Have you made a appointment yet with your GP practice midwife or local clinic wherever they work out of in your area.

Yeah, they scanned me because they weren’t sure how far it was!
I have made a referral with my GP but they have no appointments until the end of August and i’ll be 15 weeks by then 😣

Hi if your periods are irregular, the scan will be able to tell them more how far along you have gone. Its something like 16% of babies are born on their due dates anyway. My first was 4 days late and my second 2 and a half weeks early. They always go on your date of your last period as you could get pregnant technically from then onwards. Congratulations to you 🙂

Since you know when you ovulated, that might give you a more accurate estimate of how far along you are. Doctors usually calculate from your last period assuming a 28-day cycle, but if yours is longer due to PCOS, it might not match up exactly.
