Stalin and Mao are in a dead heat for me. Read the Black Book of Communism and see some other heroes of socialism.

If the question was worse person in British history then I’d say David Cameron. He’s to blame for the reason why this country is in such a mess after he started 14 years of brutal ideology austerity among many other ongoing problems he created before going away in 2016.

Hitler is the first person who comes to mind for me.

You're forgetting Thatcher.

I remember a football player for Senegal at Wrold Cup 2002 with this name, but this is certainly a coincidence.

Some say that Vlad III gets a worse rep than he deserves which was caused by the Saxons. In reality, it's believed he was an efficient and practical leader of a small tiny country with little resources and limited professional military. However, due to his ingenuity and courage he managed to successfully resist against a vast and rich Ottoman Empire with a multitude of professional soldiers which was climbing up the Balkan countries. Some say if it weren't for him and other strong leaders in the region to oppose the Ottomans, the main religion in Europe would have been islam. By the way, he grew up in the Ottoman Empire in the leader's court (not a choice of his own) and he was trained by them, and most of the tactics he used were those that he saw practiced by the Ottomans.

Thomas Midgley Jr. played a major role in developing leaded gasoline and freon, which had massive harmful impact on human health and the environment. Although he knew they were highly toxic (he survived a lead poison himself), he insisted they were fine to use. It's considered that he "had more adverse impact on the atmosphere than any other single organism in Earth's history". These toxins were used for decades until their effect on human health was recognised and they were slowly phased out in the 80s-90s.

You seriously believe Cameron was worse than Cromwell or Bloody Mary, or King John or Jack the ripper?

Rank Order:

Mao
Stalin
Hitler
Lenin
Pol Pot
The Kim Family

I can't recommend the Black Book of Communism enough.

On balance I'd have to say Pol Pot. Although others have killed more in terms of numbers [ Hitler, Stalin,Mao etc] Pol Pot & his Khmer Rouge regime managed to wipe out over a third of Cambodia's population & were only in power for less than 4 years. Also relocated the entire population of the country into what were effectively slave labour/ concentration camps. While there's been plenty of bad regimes throughout history I really can't think of anything comparable to this.

A few [dis]honourable mentions
Reinhard Heydrich.
While in charge of occupied Czechoslovakia, was known for extreme brutality, even by Nazi standards & also headed up the Wannsee conference which made the decision to enact the Final Solution. If you were looking to single out one person as having the most personal responsibility for the Holocaust I think I'd say Heydrich was the one.

King Leopold II of Belgium for his actions in Congo. The Belgian Congo wasn't just another colony in the way many places were at the time but the whole territory & the people living there were classed as Leopold's private property. He basically ran it as his own personal slave plantation, with medieval style punishments, mutilations etc for those who resisted.

Lazar Kaganovich. Stalin's right hand man & the main architect of the Holodomor famine/ genocide in Ukraine.

Some of the roman emperors were not very nice.

But if you ask me personally, I think it is that man who invented autotune.

Dead (in no particular order):
Adolf Hitler
Josef Stalin
King Leopold II of Belgium

Alive (in no particular order):
Hibatullah Akhundzada
Ali Khamenei
Vladimir Putin
Benjamin Netanyahu
Donald Trump
Kim Jong-un

I might have missed some.

Is Trump really so bad as president of the United States that he has to name with rulers who were responsible for a genocide? I have missed something in the last weeks.

Much of what Thatcher did was going to happen anyway. That's the unfortunate reality of the situation. I do think it could have been all handled a lot more carefully though.

Hitler is an obvious choice for one of the worst candidates in this particular order but students of history would agree there are individuals who are far far worse.

He’s seems fascinated by some of the other leaders on the list at least to the point where he’s willing to apply some of their rhetoric in practice (which isn’t a good sign).
