How would you react to your partner confessing about having an addiction ?

My sister fell into a massive depression 3 years ago, she went down for 2 years and started using drugs last year... It lasted for 6 months before she finally told us about it.
She was weighting 83 lbs at this point and was hospitalized a few months prior.

Her partner kicked her out instantly, took the keys of the house, her car and went out to their hangout spot and shared her story with everyone,

What would you have done ? Do you think it is a normal behavior for someone who spent 15years with that person, and has a kid together ?

I was happy she finally told me what was going on, i was releived she wasnt alone in this anymore, but even 4 months later he kept doing mean and petty things to her and acted like she wasnt worth it.

I would love to see what you think !
Am I too soft ?

Sorry for my bad spelling, english isnt my language !

I think I would have stayed with my partner on the terms that they try and put the effort in to recover from it... I.e. attending rehab, trying out therapy, etc. Definitely wouldn't have kicked them out!! If it went unnoticeable for so long it was unlikely to be dangerous to the kids...
(Then again, I'd consider myself quite 'progressive', so this might just be an echo of my political views and not the correct thing to do... But I think everyone deserves a second chance 🤷)

There is always a path to recovery, like said in the post above. There is the option of attending rehab or trying out therapy, trying to quit on your own without friends/family support can sometimes be nearly impossible. It's not as simple as stopping as drugs can rewire your brain, which is why people using can fall into a depression.

There is a rehab near me that I can recommend, I'll put the link below. Having support around someone going through addiction can be the most important thing, however it can be difficult for people to try and help when the person is struggling to quit.

For reference should anyone ever need a rehab: https://delamere.com/addiction-treatment/drugs
