combined science degree then materials science…

i have a dilemma! i want to study bsc combined STEM at the open university as i quite like the flexibility and freedom of picking modules that you like and enjoy.

i would love to go to oxford or cambridge to study materials science and/or engineering for masters after this. but would i be at a disadvantage for studying such a broad degree, even if i picked relevant modules to these? shall i just study beng engineering at the open university instead??

has anyone done anything similar? or just generally studied combined STEM and has any opinions on it?

Having a combined STEM degree might put you at a disadvantage compared to other Oxbridge applicants than if were to study the BEng with OU. I would go for the BEng since you have specific aspirations.

The combined STEM degree is more suited towards people who probably aren't studying for specific career/academic aspirations. I know someone on the combined STEM degree who's already a software dev and they're doing a mix of maths and science modules just for fun.
