Geography Coasts NEA

I’m in year 12, and starting my NEA, and my exam board is AQA. My main question for my NEA is “To What Extent does sediment size affect the Coastal Profile at Hengistbury Head?” But I’m struggling with sub question ideas, I’m thinking I might want to do one about how coastal defences affect the beach profile but I’m not 100%. Any ideas??

what data collection do u have? and by coastal profile do u mean beach profile?

So far I am just completing a proposal form for my ideas so no data collection yet, I am planning to do Beach Profiles, Sediment Analysis, Groyne Measuring, and Rip-Rap Measuring. Yeah sorry, I meant Beach Profile :smile:

I think this would be good:
"To what extent does coastal management control the coastal processes in ___"
1st subquestion: How does coastal management influence the coastal processes? - use groyne profile, rip rap and sediment analysis to prove that management is influencing LSD to build up the coast.
2nd subquestion: How has coastal management shaped ____. - use beach profile, I recommend doing a field sketch. Take plenty of photographs too to aid your beach profile and field sketch.
3rd subquestion: Cost Benefit Analysis

Hi, I did my NEA already but exam board is edexcel, did this exact structure and got A*, I hope this helps you, it was tricky for me too at the beginning. You can do it!

hi, I am doing my nea coursework now for Edexcel and am doing data presentation. I collected 20 rocks length, height and width which were being used as rip-rap. My teacher said the presentation must be creative but I dont know what to do, not sure if you had any ideas. Thanks so much for the help

Hey, don’t know if this is too late to help but I did 10 pebbles at each site and measured length, width and height too. Then I got a mean for the length, width and height at each site, and multiplied these together to get “mean sediment size”. So then I had one value for each site and I just put it in a bar chart. You could kind of put it into any graph though. If you put your data into a table on excel then highlight it and click recommended charts it gives loads of possible ones you could use. Hope this helps a bit xx
