Had to withdraw from my 2nd year placement, will I receive help from Student Finance?

Hello!

I'm currently studying my 2nd year of a 3 year full-time degree which includes clinical placements. I have passed all my assignments and exams this year however due to personal circumstances I have had to withdraw from my clinical placement. My tutor is hoping she can find another one as soon as possible so I can pass before the 3rd year starts in September however, this is unlikely due to it being a narrow window and other placement providers being busy. This means that I would have to do my placement this September or January, meaning I wouldn't progress on to 3rd year until September 2025.

My questions are, as I would only be redoing my placement module, will I get any help with student finance or would I have to fund this myself? Would I receive any maintenance loan? And also, would I also still be able to receive the Childcare grant when I'm on placement or throughout the year?

Thank you

I've moved your thread to the Ask SFE forum so that it will be answered by an official SFE/SLC rep during normal office hours (probably tomorrow now).

Hi there, Just to clarify the 24/25 academic year you would not be studying but will resume 25/26 academic year? Thanks, Angela

Hi Angela, I would be redoing my placement module in September 24 or January 25 (dependent on when there is a place available for me) then progressing on to my 3rd year in September 25.

Hi there, Would this be the first time you have had to repeat study? Are the university classing you as a Internal or external student? Thanks, Angela

Hi again,

Many thanks for your prompt response. Yes, this is the first time I would have to repeat any of my studies.

I am not sure whether the university would class me as an internal or external student yet, as I am waiting for them to get back to me about my student status. Would it be possible to ask the answer to both internal/ external?

Hi there, If they class you as an internal student you will be eligible for funding. Thanks, Angela

If I was an external student, would there be no funding at all? 🙂 Many thanks
