Hi there!

I use the HP Pavilion model. I have just finished my degree, and the laptop has served me well.

However, I am very much a windows girl.
Many of my coursemates swear by Apple.

It's crucial to conduct thorough research and identify your specific laptop needs. If your usage primarily involves writing essays, any laptop should suffice. However, if you anticipate heavy software or program downloads, you'll need to consider additional factors, such as storage capacity.

Good luck!

Hello! From what I have seen in the last two years at university, its pretty much a 50/50 split between Windows users and Apple users. A few people have chromebooks but they aren't ideal as you may struggle to (or not be able to at all) download any software that may be required for your degree. I do psychology and I have a HP Pavilion Notebook which I've found has worked very well for me, I have to download the occasional software but a lot of what I do is online. People who use Apple macbooks or ipads have struggled a little bit as not all software has been fully compatible with their devices. So it really depends on what your degree is and what you need to use your device for. I have heard that windows is better for scientific degrees and apple is better for arts degrees, but I'm not sure how true that is. If you are unsure, you could always email the department for the subject you will be doing at your university and ask them for advice.
Good luck for the future!

Hi there,

I personally use a Lenovo Ideapad, and have since A-Levels.

I absolutely love my laptop, and it has served me well through my studies so far. I find it extremely easy to navigate, easy to use when researching and writing essays, and have had minimal issues with it. I have only had to change the battery once, but now it is like new.

I don't know many people who use Apple, and I personally think that Windows is easier to use, navigate, and is more compatible with software you might use in university. It does depend on your course and what you anticipate you'd use it for the most, but in my opinion, Windows is definitely something to seriously consider.

I hope this helps,

Hi there,

Great to hear that you will be starting university soon! 😊

Throughout my studies I used a Lenovo laptop and absolutely loved using it to make notes and store my uni work. I liked that it was super light and offered touch screen. I would recommend you have a think about what you will be using the laptop for to get an idea of how much storage you might need on it. Have a look online at the various laptop options available in your price range to see which one will best support you with your studies.

Best of luck!
Sarah
