Question on Sixth Form at Chetham's School of Music

My son, Matthew , is currently in Year 10 and is interested in applying to the Sixth Form at Chetham's School of Music. Upon reviewing the Sixth Form requirements, we noticed that GCSE Music is listed as a prerequisite. Unfortunately, Matthew's current school does not offer GCSE Music lessons or provide any guidance on taking the subject independently.

Matthew is an accomplished violinist, having passed the ARSM level and currently studying for the LRSM. He has also completed Grade 5 theory and is deeply passionate about music, which is why he is eager to apply to Chetham's School.

He is now concerning if that is a big issue when apply Sixth Form at Chetham's School of Music. please give any advices or experience share

Thanks,
JerryC
Hello,

Congratulations to your son as he sounds wonderfully talented. I think you should contact the admissions team at Chetham's School of Music and go and audition. The audition is the time when she can show his talent and they look at the whole package of student rather then just for one qualification such as GCSE music. Good luck

I woudl definitely reccomend contacting admissions and asking though I do not think that a lack of gcse music will Impede his chances , Chetham’s looks for musical potential first and foremost and Matthew definitely sounds as though he has that. I would also reccomend going to An open day and getting a feel for the school.
Hope this helps- currently attending in y10
