Hatfield living experience?

Tldr: how are things in term of cost of living and especially job availability?

Going to Hertfordshire uni for Computer Science topup and lately I've been feeling unsure about the choice. Especially that I had hard tikr finding any job duting my gap year.

Looking at different rankings, Hertfordshire uni seemed to have edge over othera in the subject, though none of my accepted unis are necessary good. My second choice was Northampton.

Another reaosn for choosing it was because its close to London, so should be plenty of job opportubities, both for intrrship or just some regular part time job. But then again its close to London, expensive and dangerous.
Accomondations are also expensive for what they are, those provided by uni, seen some private house shares which seem affordable. Mwanwhile Northampton seems to have affordablr and nice accomondations.

Hey!

We're glad you're joining Herts and I completely understand your concerns. In regards to safety, Hertfordshire is actually ranked among the top 5 safest places to live in the UK (Office of National Statistics, 2023), sitting among the counties with the lowest crime rate across the country! From experience, I felt very safe when I was living in Herts. Learn more about safety in Herts here.

There are plenty of opportunities for work, whether its part-time during your studies or even a full-time position after uni. I would highly recommend contacting our incredibly supportive careers and employment team during and after your studies, who can assist with applications, CV's and interviews. They helped me massively in achieving my current position!

Being in Herts provides that great balance of being a 25 minute train ride away from central London, while being much more affordable to live in. We offer accommodation on both campuses, but if you would prefer to live off-campus, as you mentioned - there are plenty of options. Learn more here.

I hope this helps and wish you all the best with your studies and future career 🙂

Thanks,
Juan
