clearing URGENT URGENT URGENT URGENT URGENT

so I've heard that you should ring the university up to ask if they have spaces available for a course and that you have to give your clearing number which you can only get once you actually get into clearing by rejecting all offers. Additionally, if you don't have your clearing number then the university might not even consider you a place at all so should I just go into clearing first? Since I would be wasting my time by calling them for spaces in the course without actually having a clearing number

why do you think you wouldn't be in clearing? Are you hoping to use clearing to switch to a different university and not as a backup?

Clearing doesn't open until 5 July. This 'Early Clearing' is essentially to fill up any remaining International vacancies.

The majority of general spaces will not be known/entered into Clearing until A Level Results Day in August.

You cannot be considered for Clearing until you have your results, and you are not holding a place at another Uni.

Yeah I’m planning to use it just to switch universities , not necessarily as a back up

do you definitely want to go to a different university and not your firm?
Or are you trying to hedge your bets?

Oh yeah it’s already decided that I definitely do NOT want to go to my firm, my lack of research in universities led me to choosing that university as my firm but then after looking at some more universities I found other better ones that actually look more appealing to me in almost every aspect

And is it likely that your preferred University will be entering the course(s) you are interested in into Clearing?

in that case it's worth changing your replies to decline all your offers now so that you'll be in clearing as soon as it opens and able to apply to universities as soon as you have your results

Well honestly I don’t really know, kinda hard to tell the likelihood of a university being in clearing. The university I was talking about was university of Leicester for computer science if that helps in any way

Damn I’m getting a bit nervous by rejecting all offers lol, if I actually decide to do that how would I actually do it? I’m on ucas and all I see if withdraw whole application, so if I decide to reject all offers then I should press that button right?

no - swapping your replies to declines is done by ringing UCAS.

Do NOT withdraw your application if you want to use clearing

And - do you have a Plan B if CS at Leicester isn't in Clearing?

Wait I’m a bit confused…. So come results day say you’ve got your results and you want to change universities from your firm, can’t you ring up cleaning first for the preferred uni and course, they say you’ve got a place and then decline all existing offers? It seems like a big gamble if I have to decline everything first and then call up clearing….

No universities cannot make offers if you are holding an offer elsewhere. You have to decline your offer and then you will have a clearing number so they can make offers to you.

Clearing wasnt designed for students wishing to change courses. It was designed to get students without places into universities who have spare places, In recent years students have started using it to change courses.

1/8 of applicants won’t have a UF place on results day and will spend the day trying to get a decision from their firm choice. They can’t use decline my place to use clearing until their firm and/or insurance make decisions.

There’s zero benefit to clinging to a firm choice you don’t intend to attend

I have a similar question, if anyone could answer please:
I have done a late apply only this week, as I finished first year on my current course and am now wanting to do something else. Do I have to wait for my choices to decide before i can try through clearing? Or will they make a decision before the clearing date starts? What’s the chances I’ll get in via a late application as apposed to calling through clearing?

Phone them and ask.
But remember - main Clearing with the bulk of vacancies will not start until August.
