The Student Room Group

Student finance application approved, but I got an email asking for sponsor details?

What the title says. The student finance website says everything is A-Okay application-wise (nothing appears missing) and my application is approved. However, this morning I got an email asking for sponsor details for a tax year we've already submitted. Plus...the quote i was given for maintenance loans is *way* lower than the guidelines given on the govt website based on my household income for the years asked. What's up with this???

Hi there,

How was the sponsor details submitted previously? With the email that was sent is there a form attached to it? If you've been given the standard rate then the sponsoring details weren't received.

Thanks,
Ross

Thanks for your response.

Both my sponsors (my parents) checked their accounts and student finance says they have nothing left to do, and that their details were received. Then again, it also seems like we haven't been means-tested at all, and that their details also haven't been received (hence the email.)

On the phone to SFE for over an hour and it doesn't look like I'll get an answer in time. Kind of worried!

Hi LeekspinGirl,

There have been some system issues with sponsors supporting applications online for 24/25. If the online details haven't gone through I would advise having your sponsors complete a pff2 form which you can find here:

https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-forms

Once we have this form it will be around 42 working days to review. It can be uploaded through your online account.

Thanks,
Calum

My daughter completed her application form in April and her finance was approved on 8/4/24 (letter received). She has just received an email (end of June) requesting my sponsor details for the forthcoming year. Surely I do not need to complete the whole pff2 form for her to receive the minimum maintenance loan and tuition fees loan.

Hi there,

If she requested the maximum and is under 25 we will need the sponsor details to support the application. If she wants the minimum and requested this then we don't require the sponsor details.

Thanks,
Claire
