Do top unis care about GCSEs?

Im currently in y12 and thinking about applying to uni and I was wondering if unis such as UCL or Edinburgh require specific GCSEs and if they look for supercurriculars in personal statements?

The GCSE grades that any university requires will depend on the degree course you're applying for. If the course has maths content, they might be keen on a decent grade at Maths GCSE. If it's essay-based, they might be keen in a decent grade at English GCSE.

For what course would you be thinking of applying?

English literature! My GCSEs are mostly 7s,8s and 9s, but I have 6s in my sciences.

OK. At UCL, all programmes require a grade 5 or higher in English Language and Mathematics at GCSE or equivalent. For BA English, they additionally require English Language at grade B or 6. They don't care about GCSE sciences.

At Edinburgh, a pass is required in English at GCSE Grade C/4 for entry to all degrees. Their MA English Literature degree (which is a undergraduate degree) does not extend this requirement. They don't care about GCSE sciences.
