NEA geography HELP!! Is this a good topic!!

Hello!!
I'm a student currently starting my NEA.
I've decided to base mine on the question:
'What gives 'location' it's unique sense of place'
My subtopics would be something about :

1. How do demographic characteristics and cultural dynamics affect 'location' residents’ sense of place

1.

How does quality of the physical environment influences 'location' residents’ sense of place

2.

How does 'location' residents’ perception influence their community attachment and sense of place

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

That sounds like a great NEA coursework start! When I read it, I immediately thought of human geography which I think is easier to do than if you were to pick physical (my opinion though). Not sure which exam board you're on but I was on Edexcel so my advice may be different if you're on a different exam board. Lmk if you're on the same exam board cause I can try my best to help.

I think you'll be collecting your data very soon too but don't worry. The teachers will probably give you guidance on how to do it properly when you get back from summer.

If you're not on the same exam board, then I am sure your teachers will give you guidance and advice on what you're planning to do.

Remember, teachers are there to help you, so ask them as many questions as you want! They're vital when it comes to the advice. But also remember that there is only so much they can give since it is an independent investigation. You can also look up on Youtube for help too.

Good luck on your coursework!

Hi! Thank you so much for replying back, i really appreciate it. I'm also doing the Edexcel exam board so any hints and tips would really help. I've already started collected my data over the summer, so i have a rough idea on what i'm going to be writing about and am *trying* to write up my literature review but i'm not 100% sure what to write. I'll be sure to ask my teachers once school starts again. Thanks again 🙂

Great! It's also good to hear that you've already started collecting some data over the summer.

Intro - Just introduce the place (where is it? The history of the place), why you want to study your chosen topic of the place etc.

For the literature review section, it's mainly about exploring both the specifics and the wider context of your chosen topic. It depends on which topic you're studying at your College, but it sounds like 'Regeneration' and it's from EQ1, I believe. Researching and including some theory/ models in there is ideally a good idea. Imo, it should be in there to get the higher marks. In this case, for yours, I think the 'Egan Wheel' is a great theory model to include in there as it's about sustainability which could be a part of potentially how the locals might perceive the place and whether they match the model's idea.

But don't panic!! Like I said before, hopefully the teachers will give you guidance on all of this when you get back.

Once again, good luck on your coursework and I'll try my best to help you if you have any more questions.

HIiii!!
Just an update, i've officially finished by introduction, and taken your advice of using theories and models and my teacher was really happy with it!! Thank you for the idea it was super helpful 🙂

At the moment I'm doing my first sub-question which is about the demographics + cultural characteristics and how they influence the sense of place. Its going okay, i think i waffle a little too much though its getting really long. Im trying to use a range of sources like questionnaires ive done and census date etc. (I hope that boosts up my grade a little)
I plan on doing chi-squared but i kept getting confused on how to do it so ill try again this holiday ahah.

Thanks again (Your advice is super useful, did you do A-level geography during college too, how did you find the course?)

That's good to hear! Not sure if you've finished you NEA yet, but by now, I think it should be there abouts finished?

(Yes, I did do it at A-level, but didn't read the course description properly so was surprised we had to do an NEA haha. For the main exam, I find that practicing as many exam questions as you can and ask teachers to just look over your answers to see if it's structured alright is most effective. Because some of the actual exam questions I sat last year were practically similar to the past paper questions I've practiced.) 🙂 Gl! I'm sure you'll be fine by the sounds of things.

My daughter is finishing her AQA NEA these days 🥳 We have some queries and we can’t find the answers:
Do you know what is the maximum file size the students can submit? And is it ok for the candidate’s name to appear on the document, and on every page?
Any knowledge really appreciated?

I'm not sure how the AQA board works, but for Edexcel, I did put my name at the top (header) so it would appear on every page. Page numbers were required and at the very start, I had a page dedicated to all the essention information such as my candidate number, full name, college centre number etc... I think you do get told all the required information for this beforehand? I think there isn't a limit to the file size but you can check with the school. I used word document to do it. Hope this helps.

Many thanks for your reply. Since, I found the max size of each upload can be huge, 50GB 😳 so that’s ok. I still haven’t managed to find out if AQA allows for the name to be revealed. Good to know Edexcel allows it, it’s a good indication, thank you.
