Masters loan for 2024/2025

Every time I attempt to apply for postgraduate student finance on the Student Finance England website, I receive a message stating that the application for postgraduate funding is not yet open. Could you please provide any information on when the application process is expected to open?

Additionally, I have a few questions regarding the timing of securing the student loan:

Do I need to have my student finance approved before commencing my course, or is it possible to start my course and apply for student finance afterwards?
The Student Finance England website mentions that it is possible to apply for a loan up to nine months after the start date of the course. Could you confirm if this applies to postgraduate loans as well?
As a refugee, I have already received my unconditional offer letter, and I am eager to ensure all my financial arrangements are in place before starting my studies
Hi!

Masters funding usually opens on Student Finance at the end of June. You can apply for student finance before your course or throughout any point! It is worth noting when your university wants payments by and arranging it with your university to fit your postgraduate loan dates. This year, I got mine early October, early February and mid June. You can apply up to nine months after the start date like undergrad, but your university will have a certain timeline for payments. For example, they might want the first installment by mid October, so this is worth noting!

I would keep checking Student Finances page every few days to see if they are open, but you have plenty of time so don't worry!

I hope this helps!

Hi can a Nigerian who got an admission to university of salford also apply?

Hi there @Caloshie - as Student Finance England (SFE) are separate to Universities, it is best to ask them directly - they are the experts!

They will be able to go through your exact circumstances and information via their processes and confirm what funding may be available to you. Usually SFE is student funding for those classed as UK Home Students that have permanent residence in England.:flower2:

It is also worth noting that it may be best to call them via their contact centre and research information available on their webpages. This is usually because they require a bit of personal information in order to assess if you'd be eligible! :o:

More information on masters and higher education level loans from Student Finance England can be found here: Funding for postgraduate study - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

You can also ask SFE on TSR (linked above) for general advice too :fluffy:
I hope this helps!

Hello @Caloshie,

Due to the unique nature of your situation I would recommend getting in contact with our course enquiries team and discussing the situation with them directly, they should be able to advise you.

To email our course enquiries teams it would be [email protected] they take up to five days to respond to any email.

You can also give them a call on 0161 295 4545 between the hours of 10am and 4pm, Monday - Friday.

I hope you get to the bottom of your query.
