Second Degree

How much finance can we get when applying for a second undergraduate degree, when one holds an overseas degree?

Hi there,

Can you confirm the name of your course, what university you will attend and the duration of the course? Is this for a part time or full time undergraduate course for the 2024/25 academic year? The qualification that you have already is it an undergraduate qualification? How long have you lived in the UK and what is your status in the UK?

Thanks, Drew

Sure, Is for BSc Medical Physiology at UEL or maybe King's College (Does this make a difference?).
It's a three years course.
It's for full-time study for 2024.

I have pre-settled status, have lived here since 2014 but with a break in between, that's why I'm not holding settled status.

My qualification is undergraduate, but not recognised here to work in the area. Title of Psychologist is the higher accomplished in my home country.

Thanks Drew

Hi there,

This course is classed as an exception course which means we do not take your previous qualification into consideration. Have you been living in the UK for the last 3 years and have no plans to move before the course starts? Do you plan to work while you study?

Thanks, Drew

Thanks Drew! Yes, I've been living in the UK for more than 3 years.
Regarding working, is there a restriction? I'm only asking for tuition loan so will probably have to work part time for living costs. Is that a problem?

Hi there,

No you can apply as an EU student for the Tuition Fee Loan only due to your pre-settled status, You would nee to complete the EU24n form an post it back to us. Once received it can take 6-8 weeks to process.

Many thanks Drew.
So BSc Medical Physiology is an exception course, that's 100% a fact?
Just asking because I couldn't find a list while searching for this information.

Also, could you check if the following degrees at UCL are also exception courses?
Applied Medical Sciences BSc
Infection and Immunity BSc
Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences BSc
Cancer Biomedicine BSc

I appreciate your help, thanks in advance

Yes the Medical Physiology is an exception course but all the other courses you have mentioned are not exception courses.

Hi Drew,

I submitted everything and my application was successful as more than two weeks ago.
But now, I got into the platform just to check something and my application status changed as SUBMITTED and not accepted anymore. How is this possible?
I'm out of England and cannot call but I'm very worried. I read there's a chat but I don't see the option for it.
Are you able to guide on this?

Hi there,

Did you send any further evidence to us? Have you been asked for evidence?

Thanks,
Ross

Have you checked your emails in case you've been asked for documents?

Thanks,
Ross

Nothing else requested, in fact all should be in order. When it was accepted the only missing thing was my bank details for the payments.

Hi there, We would require access to the account to check on your application, when are you returning back to England? Thanks, Angela

Hi Angela,
This happened almost a month ago and my application is everyday deferred for assessment. It's extremely disrespectful and I can't go through this anymore, my nerves are wrecking.
I want to know where can I complain. Every time I call I'm told the same, they don't know I have to wait. But I cannot wait wait anymore.

Hi there,

We don't have account access on social media so aren't able to check this. You would need to call the EU line on 0141 243 3570.

If you wish to make a complaint you can find the details here https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/student-loans-company/about/complaints-procedure#making-a-complaint

Hi,

My application result came up negative, I was told Medical Physiology is not an exemption course. How come I was reassure several times here that this was an exemption course for a second degree.
Where was that information retrieved? Why do they not have the same information?
Please, could you tell me where was the information taken?

Hi there,

We would have looked up the database at the time of when you were asking about the course. Did they approve your application 1st and then they have came back and said it wasn't an exception course? Have you spoke to any of the advisors since you have been told you are not eligible?

Thanks, Drew

Yes, they approved the application, but the note was that I already have a degree. I said it was an exception course and the lady at the phone said is not.

Drew, is it or not an exception course? I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated, the application was approved in July and then suddenly someone reseted it and they had me 2 months waiting for this..

Hi there. I'm sorry if this was the advice given previously. This course is not showing as an exception course on our system. You can have a look at a list of ELQ exception courses here:

https://www.heinfo.slc.co.uk/resources/guidance/courses-management-service-user-guide/eligibility/equivalent-or-lower-qualification-elq-exceptions/?alttemplate=printchapter&id=1454

Thanks, Leah.
