The Student Room Group

sixth form

hi, i'm starting sixth form in september, with induction days next week, and i'd really like some advice. basically any and all advice - i'm worried about making friends, not understanding work, independent study. i am really scared i won't make any friends, and that a lot of people will already have friends or friend groups there. none of my friends are taking my subjects, so i won't have that either.

all in all, i'm just feeling a little lost, and would really appreciate anything right now. thank you!

There's no need to worry much about the next 2 years - compared from the transition to secondary school, college/SF is a lot better. You have access to your phone and free time, so even if you do struggle making friends, it's not the end of the world. In terms of revision, take it easy for the first term. You don't need to revise regularly til ur first AS mocks. While this may seem like some stupid advice, if you do struggle to make friends just take a book in everyday and spare work. I often wish I had gone somewhere where I wouldn't know a lot of people: when you are alone you will find it easier to revise and work in your frees. Talk to classmates about hw and subjects, but if people don't want to make friends there is nothing u can do. I've spent the last 2 years wasting my free periods and not revising with my friends, and I regret it greatly. This is a chance for a fresh start, and your main aim these two years is to get the grades for uni.
