medicine with ABB

hi guys, this is mostly just a rant about a level grades and uni. I’m planning on studying medicine and somehow got 2 offers. I firmed Manchester and since I’m a contextual student they offered me ABB. I just finished my a levels and found biology to be quite nice this year, maths was alright and chem was just not great. honestly it feels like I got a B in chem and that I’m a few marks off an A. most universities for medicine require chemistry so I’m stressed about results day and if I’ll be good enough to study a medicine course. If I got lower than the minimum grade requirements, it just seems like I’ll struggle heavily with the course. how do people in uni find studying medicine if they got below AAA? the grade boundaries are just so high for chem in comparison to maths and biology so it’s definitely my worst subject.

Hi, in my opinion, (im not a medical student) a-levels are completely different from what you will learn at uni, learning medicine requires a completely different way of thinking, so i think you should be fine if you just work hard like everyone else. Please could you tell me what your year 12 predicted grades were? and what your other offer was?

Congratulations on your offer, and congratulations on your other offer. Not one, but two med schools thought that you, out of a cast of thousands, were who they wanted in their med school.

That is some achievement. Well done.

Not only that but Manchester gave you an offer of ABB. I am absolutely certain that they would not make that offer if they were not prepared to abide by it.

I also think that they wouldn’t make it as an offer if they truly thought, ha, going to pull this one as a lark with ABB and think that you, and any other person with that offer wasn’t up to it.

You are capable and confident. You are just having a bit of pre results jitters. It will be what it will be.

Have faith in Manny making that offer because they think it’s viable to do medicine with those grades, and have faith in their decision that you are capable of doing it. Good luck with those results and I hope you enjoy Manchester.

If you feel you need extra support with any aspect of uni when you get there, be it a subject, essay structure or just homesickness. Reach out to the uni’s support services, it’s what it’s there for.

And don’t forget, not all medicine courses require chemistry at all!

If they didn't think you could cope with lower A level grades, they wouldn't have made you that offer.
Stop worrying, and enjoy your summer break.
