Thx! I made a triangular, separated bin (sorting rubbish after a small local celebration) for OCR. 91 is also amazing!!!

That sounds like a great idea! I suggest doing research into colours for the product, and try to make it an interesting shape that appeases the primary user and stakeholders - if you can't find many different shapes, then quote 'function over form' to show that you understand extra DT. I hope that goes well for you - feel free to reply if u have any other questions or need more advice!

wow 100% is so good!! congrats! I’m doing my DT NEA task this year and I have chosen the contextual challenge of eating away from home. i don’t really know what problems come with this challenge and what products I could produce. I can only think of lunchboxes and school. Do you have any other ideas of what problems I could add to my mind-map that allows me to expand it? Thanks!

Hi charcharbw and v1d4ii, sorry I've not answered sooner! I like the sound of a contextual challenge of eating away from home. Those are two slightly different questions, so I'll answer them in different paragraphs. (Stick with me here, it's a long one)

1.

Other problems possible; it sounds like you have been focusing on the 'eating food from home, away from home'. How about a different angle such as 'making food away from home to eat' - for this you could have problems such as; healthy eating, budget, equipment, a need to keep food fresh, contamination/cooking meat through, hygiene, recipes, disposal/washing up - basically anything a uni student might have had problems with, I recommend asking another adult about their problems as students/YA (I'm sure they had many more problems than I can think of).

2.

Or you could go down the short route of eating in a restaurant/bar - avoiding food contamination, allergy sufferers, different languages, budgets etc. I hope this has helped your ideas for the mind map!

V1d4ii, I'm a bit confused, so I'm gonna need slightly more info if I wanna properly help u pls, the way we did it was we created a design brief (a specific problem to fix), after having initially explored some contextual problems, and then interviewed stakeholders/primary user before finally thinking about our initial designs. Maybe I've misunderstood what Ur asking for, but if Ur doing initial designs it seems very early?
Id love to help tho, if u could tell me what the problem is that the designs are fixing!

Hello first of all very well done on achieving 100%. I too am currently doing my NEA and I am thinking Abt my manufacturing of the product and particularly what materials I would require. I need specifically shaped wooden dowels with a certain thickness and height which will be one of the main aspects of my product as it acts as a slot and will be visible on the outside. The problem is I do not think that my school can facilitate it that specifically and now I am panicking because I absolutely need those wooden dowels. So could you pls let me know if it is allowed for me to purchase those wooden dowels by myself and then bring it to lesson and work on in under supervision or is it considered cheating and would I get disqualified. Pls could you let me know ASAP I am very desperate and stressed out.

You can do that for sure, there is no way it would be considered cheating!

Hi, I am stressing about my project. I’ve switched from Educational Toys to ‘How can products be used to educate people about a local landmark?’. I have an idea as in a vague 3D puzzle with facts inside the puzzle somehow - I’m not sure, maybe I might make it out of a 3D printer. I’m currently analysing existing products such as 3D puzzles, but don’t want to end up copying something similar to that which already exists. I also thought about a wooden puzzle in sections which when pulled apart would provide a hidden fact about a local landmark. I’m not sure it’s a strong enough idea, any ideas truly appreciated!

That wooden puzzle idea sounds amazing! My best advice is that you don't want to make it too complicated, even if it seems like a 'weak idea' its the process that you get the marks for, not the actual product. Have you heard of Eugy models (search it up on google)? They are wooden tiles to fit together to make an animal - you could use that idea on a larger scale to make something like the Angel of the North, with each tile having a fact on it, so you learn while putting it together?

Hi, what your teacher means is that you get marked for the different skills you use to make your product. If you really want to make a sudoku board, I recommend making interestingly shaped sudoku-maybe each number could be a different shape and you use different techniques? I am a bit confused by what you mean on the greenhouse front though? How our teacher put it is that you want to avoid doing rectangles - because those are generally easy to do, so hard to show off your dt to get the high marks
