Nursing to mechanical engineering

Long story short I’m an adult nursing student (1st year) but had to do a foundation year in health. So that’s two years worth of tuition loan that I’ve already used.

I would like to switch to mechanical engineering (preferably full time) at Northumbria University but again, I’d need to do a foundation year so that would be 4 years of study.

Where do I stand with student finance?

Cheers
Hi there,

We do take your previous study into consideration when we assess you for a new course. You’re entitled to funding for the length of your course, plus 1 additional year, minus any years of previous study you have. Here’s the calculation we used: 4+1-2= 3 years of funding left for the Tuition Fee Loan and this would be allocated to the 3 final years. You would need to self fund the Tuition Fee Loan for the 1st year. You can apply for the Maintenance Loan for the 4 years.

Thanks, Drew
