senior maths challenge

can anybody recommend specific topics & resources to use to do well in the senior maths challenge, i’ve never been able to do great in it, i did the senior challenge last year and only got a participation award, then a silver in the intermediate award. i want to do a maths degree, im much better at applied maths and pure rather than the type of maths covered in the challenge, but i would like to do well in it this year so i have something to mention in my personal statement, any tips greatly appreciated!
(im a scottish student too, taking advanced higher maths, however compared to the english curriculum we do not learn any sort of statistics or probability past a gsce level)
