Hi I’m studying Advanced English aswell as for portfolio writing there is argumentative where you list the pros and cons of the argument however you have to keep it balanced which can be difficult as sometimes you can find your self leaning to a specific side of the said topic which can make it sound more persuasive when it’s not supposed to be

Then there is persuasive where you try to persuade the reader to your view this can be done by using techniques such as rhetorical questions and puncturing ect

Then there is creative writing where you can write a short story about a character and there surrounding/situation using creative techniques such as metaphors , personification, punctuation etc making the character more interesting however make it a short story as there is a word count and you can make it too complicated

Then there is reflective writing where you write about a experience you had and what impact it had on you like a holiday but write it creatively using the same techniques and it is written in first person (I run ) I did this one for Nat 5 and Higher

However the discursive writing there is more stuff they mark you on compared creative writing and the more stuff they mark you on the more they can catch you out and down grade (look at marking scheme) you but play to your own strengths if your good at writing discursive then maybe choose that one . hope this helped good luck with writing it 💪

There is argumentative writing where you list the pros and cons of your argument and you keep it balanced however this can be difficult as you might find your self leaning to a specific view making it sound persuasive when it’s not supposed to be

Then theirs persuasive where you try to persuade the reader view to yours you can do this by using persuasive techniques such as rhetorical questions, punctuation and irony wow words ect

Then there’s creative writing where you can write a short story about a character and what happens to them and how this affects them is an basic example you can use creative techniques such as metaphors , imagery, personification punctuation etc to describe the character and their surroundings making them seem more interesting

Then theirs reflective where you talk about an experience you had and how this affected you such as a holiday but you write it creatively using same techniques it is also in first person (I run) I did this for Nat 5 and Higher

As for which one’s easier I would check the mark scheme for portfolio what the examiners use to grade the essay it’s on SQA website
Good luck with the portfolio writing I’m also studying it this year

Hi I’m also studying advanced English this year but as for different types of portfolio writhing there is argumentative where you the pros and cons of your specific argument (both sides of the topic) however this is quite challenging I think because you might find your self leaning one of the views and not both which can make it sound persuasive when it is not
Then their is persuasive where you try to persuade the reader of your view using techniques such as rhetorical questions to get the reader thinking of your said topic

Then there is creative writing where you can write a short story about a character and what they do in the story using metaphors, personification, punctuation to enhance your characters feelings and their surrounding making the chapter more interesting however I would suggest making the story short as you can talk about other things but not write it down as their a word count

Then their is reflective writhing where you talk about an experience you had like s holiday etc but you write it in a creative style using creative techniques this is a good one to do as you only write in first person (i walked) I did this one for Nat 5 and Higher

However with discursive writing there is more stuff they mark you on then compared to creative writing
The more stuff they mark you on the more they can catch you out on stuff and mark you down (have a look at marking schemes) but it all comes down to what your better at writing I’m more creative but some people really struggle with creative writing so play to your strengths hopers this helped
