Should I apply for Law and French at Bristol uni?

I would like to apply to do law at Bristol whether just law on its own or law and French. If you took the law and french course, I'd love to hear how it went/is going and whether it's worth choosing. I got a 9 in French GCSE and am currently working at an A in A-Level. I'm interested in a broad range of topics such as law, politics, literature and film studies and I have always loved doing French at school so I think I would enjoy this course. I'm wondering if the French modules are all taught solely in French (which is not a huge problem) and whether you found it easy to understand or if someone with my grades would. From what I've seen on the website you are sometimes required to work in groups. How is that experience, how is the workload and how do you find the assessments? I, of course, have a lot of questions about the year abroad if you have already been on it. Firstly, did you feel Bristol supported you in your preparation to go? What was the French uni like, was the course challenging to follow along? Did you manage to make friends, is it difficult adapting? There is very little information about the year abroad on the website and I guess where it will be is not set in stone either. I would love to hear about anyone's experience taking this course. Is it worth the extra 9k?

I'm not a law student nor am I applying for law with French but I am also potentially going to apply to Bristol for law (straight law LLB course)! If it makes you feel better I've only heard good things about the teaching and student environment at Bristol for straight law. Hope you get some responses soon

Hi! I’m at Bristol studying History and French (going into my second year) so i can help with the joint hons aspect and the french aspect.
If you enjoy french now you’ll love it at uni!! Especially if you enjoy the cultural parts you mentioned. Law, politics, literature and film is all covered in first year and are modules in the next few years too. They are taught in English but with the original texts in French - if you are post-alevel you are expected to engage with the french language (for example essays will be in English but you should quote the french directly). Then you have three hours of language a week which are taught entirely in french (this can be quite daunting and confusing at first but definitely beneficial once you get used to it)
In terms of Bristol as a city/uni: LOVE IT!! Best decision I made. I chose Bristol over Edinburgh and Leeds and, whilst I’m sure I would’ve had a great time in either place had I firmed them, Im so so glad I chose Bristol in the end.
You will do absolutely fine if you got a 9 and are predicted an A at A-Level, so dont worry about that
I havent been on my year abroad yet - in fact i was coming on here to look at other peoples’ experiences - so can’t say anything about that really apart from the fact that you can go almost anywhere francophone (France, Canada, parts of Africa and the Caribbean etc) and you can choose between teaching English at a French school, attending a University, or working

Hope this helped
