It's definitely needed, and I am shocked the new mobile app doesn't have one.

Hey, we've just added a dark mode to the app, so you should be able to use it there if you install the latest version
I have not received an update, but if I did and I didn't notice I haven't seen anything about a dark mode. How do I activate it?

Hi. The update for Android and iOS is in the app stores now so if your app hasn't automatically updated yet then have a look and hopefully you can manually update.
You can turn it on from the 3 bars menu in the top right of the screen. There is a toggle for Dark mode in the menu.

Are you on iOS? The update seems to be taking a little longer to reach the app store, I'd expect it to be available later today though

Thanks for clarifying that, weirdly my version updated on my iPhone but it doesn't seem to show the new version in the app store.
@Doomotron sorry for the misleading information. As above, the Apple app store seems to be taking a bit longer with the update.
I've got the update and the dark mode is now working, but I do have some feedback:
1. There isn't enough to differentiate between different UI elements. Post backgrounds share the same shade of grey as the header. The notification page is not great at all as the entire screen is the same shade of grey, and it looks quite ugly. Additionally I think the shade of grey used when writing posts is too light and could do with being full black.
2. The app should be able to change the theme depending on the system setting. Most apps do this, and I even know some adult websites that manage it.
3. The purple colour that became the main colour of TSR (sadly replacing the more pleasant light blue) is strangely absent. The lime green secondary colour is much more visible. This isn't a complaint about functionality, but I do find it interesting.

I hope that a dark mode can be added to the website as well, it really needs it.

Glad you got the update and thank you for the feedback, its very helpful! 🙂
I pass on the feedback for points 1 and 3 to our design team.

For point 2, when you first start the app it should change based on your phone settings. If you set the toggle in the app on or off then this should override the phone settings. If you log out and close the app it should reset the toggle the next time you log in and default to using the phone settings again.

If you have a minute, could you let me know what version of iOS or Android your phone has please? We can do further testing to check if something is amiss.
I'm on IOS 17.6.1. I logged out of the app, closed it and logged in again and now it is changing based on the system setting. I don't know why I'd need to log out for it to start working, but oh well. Now I know it works, I think the aim for it should be to allow people to choose between the system setting and forcing it to either light or dark. It should be able to change on the fly rather than require an app restart as well.

Thanks for trying that and for getting back to us. We've made it so the in app user setting will take precedence over the system setting but we like your suggestion of allowing the system setting to work on the fly to make it more responsive.
The automatic changing has stopped working again unfortunately.

Hi. The app will only change automatically between dark/light if you are logged out and start the app. Once you log in then the toggle in the app will control the dark mode. I think I might have phrased it badly above so sorry for the confusion. We are going to look into adding an option so that it always uses the system setting. Other users have said about only using dark mode some of the time so we know this would be a feature users want. 🙂
