The Student Room Group

Student Finance Application form

I recently got approved for a student loan however the amount I got was the lowest loan they offer, where as last year they offered me the highest amount. Is there any possible way for me to cancel or request for a student loan increase if so how can I achieve that. Desperately need help as £4000 a year would not support my needs.

Hi Rosstt,

Do you know the reason why you were awarded £4000? Have your sponsors supported your application?

Thanks,
Calum

Yes my mom is my legal guardian but for some reason they combined my moms and dads household income as one when I’m completely reliant on my mom so the expected amount should have been £10,000. I’ve submitted an appeal with evidence but just trying to find out if there is another way for requesting a loan increase and if it’s possible as getting in contact with Student finance is near impossible.

Hi there,

Are you parents still together?

Thanks,

No they are divorced, I’ve provided those documents and gonna send it off to Student finance along with my appeal letter for evidence.

The reason we have combined your parents income is because you have put this down on the form. If they're divorced, then we need proof of this with covering letter, explaining which parent you're using for your application. We can then look to reassess you on that parents details. You can upload this online in your account and its currently taking 22 working days to process.

Thanks,
Claire
