Hi MarieM,
Just remember you're all in the same boat at uni, and pretty much everyone isopen to making friends. I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself to find your people rightaway, and don't be disheartened if you don't. I wasn't very good friends with my flatmates, but after first term I'd formed really strong friendships with my course mates and others I'd met through societies/just at uni.
It's important to be open and approachable. Join clubs or societies that interest you, attend social events, and don't be afraid to strike up conversations with people in your classes or accommodation!
Also, give yourself time to adjust. Moving to a new place and starting university is a big change, and it’s okay if it takes a little while to find your footing. Be patient with yourself and others. Sometimes the best friendships form when you least expect it.
Bottom line, my advice is to be friendly and chatty when you feel comfortable and you'll findyour people!
All the best,
Sophie, University of Exeter student ambassador
