Summer Job as a uni student

So I just finished my first year of uni and I am now looking for a summer job. I don't mind working in retail as I already have previous experience in that sector. I didn't have a job whilst studying and now I am concerned if that would be held against me when applying for jobs? The gap is from September 2023 (when I started uni) to now. If applying for full time roles, is it even worth mentioning that I am a uni student on my CV? Will they hold a bias against me if they know I'm a student and likely won't be staying full time? (I will have to leave again in September🤧🤧)

Can someone help me please 😭😭😭

Hey, Coventry University Student Ambassador here! 👋

I highly doubt you would be penalized for not working during your studies, in fact, it's very excusable! Having some work experience up your sleeve before graduating is always a plus, but university should take priority first so don't worry about having a work gap during your terms! It's great that you are looking for a summer job but summer internships are also another option as I know Coventry University always advertises these on our learning platforms frequently. These are awesome opportunities that I recommend looking into to boost your CV 😎

Mentioning to your employers that you are a uni student during the summer break is up to you. It's not really necessary in my opinion, but you could look for seasonal jobs. When I worked as a barista, we always got extra busy in summer and Christmas times, so we were looking for seasonal workers. Hope it helps!

Everything Dorna just said above plus it's worth looking what jobs could be available where you are going to university as it's quite common for people to transfer between stores/branches when moving to uni 🙂
