I was in this exact position last year. I just couldn't choose between Dentistry and Optometry. Ultimately, for the sake of your application, you need to choose one. Your personal statement needs to be very specific. You must go into the details of why you wish to study your course and aspects of the course that interests you. You should consider which one you prefer first, but also which is more realistic to persue in your perspective. Dentistry requires the UCAT test and an adequate score at that. Optometry does not. Either way, don't fall into the trap of simply talking about "healthcare" in your personal statement. It will seem non-genuine and unfocused.

some universities require you to have a separate ps for optometry if you are applying with a dentistry personal statement and will ask you to email them a separate optom ps. So email the university that your applying to for optometry and ask them if they would want an optom specific personal statement, if so you will have to write 2 ps.

ohh then what did u end up choosing? did u get in? I feel like I should go for optometry cause I heard that dentistry is really hard to get in and also mainly because I want the unis in London or somewhere close to London so I only have 3 or 4 options....and one more reason is that if I choose dentistry then I have no idea what to keep my 5th option cause I don't think I want to do dental nurse or smtg like that

I went for Optom in the end and put Opthalmic Dispensing as a 4th choice and dentistry at Leeds as my 5th. Ultimately, I got rejected by dentistry as i focused my ps on Optometry and got offers from optom courses.

I'm not sure what that person is talking about. You can only submit one personal statement through UCAS. They would only ask you for a seperate personal statement IF you didn't reach the requirements of your offers after being given a place. People I know had applied to medicine and not got the grades in the end, but then got through with Optometry admissions and been asked to write a seperate personal statement only then. You're not anywhere near that stage yet, so there's no need to worry.

I'm aware of what I'm talking about as i have been through this persons exact position this year. I didn't say you can apply with 2 personal statements through UCAS, i said the uni you are applying to for optom would ask you to send a seperate personal statement relating to optom if they require it. You can either email the university you are interested in applying to and ask them if they require a separate personal statement, or during selection time, they will email to ask you for a separate personal statement. Again its university dependent. So the "IF you dont reach the requirments of your offer" isnt necessarily always true.

Hey, I’m literally in the exact same position as you. I was planning to apply for 2 dentistry and 2 optom, make my ps dentistry focused on UCAS and then write a seperate ps for optom and email those to the unis that ask for that (for optom). I was wondering if I could do this or no?
