Student Finance Late Application

I have a friend who applied extremely late for Student Finance and I'm wondering what are the consequences. I've been telling him that you run the risk of your maintenance loan coming in late, but your tuition loan might be given to the University in time.

I'm not 100% sure and I just want to clear things up,

Thanks
It's currently taking 6-8 weeks to process applications so both loans should still be in place by the start of term.

Ah, but he is a first time applicant, going into University as a fresher. The deadline according to the SFE website is Friday 17 May 2024. However it mentions that you can apply after that date just that when you start off the year you could not get your full amount as they might be still be processing. I'm just wondering whether his tuition loan will still arrive in time as the SFE website only mentions the maintenance loan being potentially delayed but nothing about the tuition loan being delayed. He can live with a few weeks without being paid the correct amount of maintenance loan, but its his tuition fee which he is worried about not arriving in time.

The May deadline was a soft deadline and you can apply up to nine months after the start of a course. If your friend has already applied, both of his loans will be in place in time. Unis don't receive the first tuition fee instalment from student finance right at the start of the academic year. A uni has to confirm the student's attendance on the course and the first instalment is paid to the uni around mid-October.
I'm having trouble too on this, has your friend successfully received funding yet from 23/24 or 24/25 yet or are they still struggling?
