Gap year

Took a gap year from university after a levels (deferred my place) now I’m wondering how to go about it if I wanted to decline that and apply for somewhere else? Thanks

Hi @Hhhhibtukb

If you haven't already applied through the main cycle, then you will have to wait until Clearing begins.

To find out more about Clearing you can click this link. You will find lots of useful information about what you can expect and how to prepare.

As for your current place, you will have to withdraw your space before you can apply to other universities through Clearing.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply, as I submitted my ucas application this time last year, can I still go through clearing? And as for declining my place, would you recommend just phoning the uni up? As I can’t do it through ucas as they’ve automatically accepted it

I had a similar situation to you. To decline my place I phoned the uni up to let them know and they tried to help but I think in the end I had to withdraw my application myself, which there was a button on ucas to do so. So yes, I think calling the uni is a good place to start and see if they can help withdraw you.

Hope that helps:smile:

Hi @Hhhhibtukb

If you're wanting to withdraw from your deferred offer to start a Clearing application, UCAS guides you to use the 'Decline my place' button in your application. This should allow you to start a new application to go through Clearing.

Here's the webpage I found that explains it a bit more: https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/applying-university/dates-and-deadlines-uni-applications/deferred-entry#:~:text=If%20you%20defer%20your%20place,apply%20for%20the%20current%20year.

Hope this helps. 🙂
