PGDE - which university?

Hi all,

I am lucky enough to have recieved an unconditional offer for PGDE biology from: Strathclyde, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Edin Napier.

I'm wondering if anybody could give me advice in which university to choose? Are they all much the same in teaching PGDE biology and training you to be the best teacher?

I would be commuting to all of the universities and due to the fact Aberdeen do a large proportion of their teaching online, this is my most favorable university. However, do you think the online teaching is a hinderance or is not influential in the quality of the teaching and preperation for probationary year?

Thank you!

Hi @palehands99

Congratulations!

I prefer face-to-face sessions, especially when it comes to teaching. I am an Education Studies student, and I'll be doing my PGCE in September. One thing I love about face-to-face sessions is the social aspect. Meeting your cohort weekly and becoming friendly with them helps you set up a good support system. Teaching is a tough job, so having people you can call on is very much needed.

It's difficult to have conversations online unless you are put into break-out rooms, and even then, it can feel quite awkward at times.

However, I can see why having online sessions is appealing for you, as it would be more convenient. It really depends on what you want out of your year. If you haven't already then definitely visit the universities on their Open Days. It's a great opportunity to talk to your future lecturers and current students.

I wish you all the best! Have a great summer
