Essay defer

Hi all I’m in my First year at uni I recently won an appeal as I had failed two submissions the appeal stated I could have defer without marks being capped. I have just failed the deferred essay with 35% I’m gutted I really worked hard and sought guidance but anyway my personal tutor on leave for 2 weeks so can’t get any advice from her I’m just wondering if anyone knows what might happen now do I get another chance or is the deterred essay classed as a and final attempt thanks

It will depend on your university's regulations.

Two possibilities that might be available to the decision makers, assuming the regulations allow you another chance, and don't require you to leave the course:

(1) Conditional progression. In this case you'll be allowed to progress to year 2 of your course in September, but will need to re-take the failed module in addition to the normal course load.

(2) Supplementary year. In this case you won't be allowed to progress to year 2 this September. Instead you'll need to re-take the failed module as the only module in the academic year. If you pass the module, you'll start year 2 of your course in September 2025.

If your personal tutor isn't around, you could perhaps ask your school/department admin team if there's another member of the academic staff available that you could talk to.
