Any advice on what to bring from home? I'm paranoid I'll forget the basic things because I'm trying to remember the more important ones

Hi @Drama Queen

I was exactly the same! Something I did to try and ease my mind was: As I was living everyday life, I made lists of the things that I was using regularly. Over time, I had a huge list of my belongings, so when it came to packing, I just referred to that.

I also used this list by UCAS, click here to have a look. It's a pretty good starting point.

Hope this helps

Have a great summer!

Hi there,

Take beddings and pillows. Don’t forget phone and laptop chargers.
Bring some cutlery, saucepans, plates, etc.
Think of where you are going to store clothes before washing.

Those are the things I wish someone told me before I moved in for my first year 😊

Take care,
Ilya

Take things to make the flat more homely, so battery powered fairy light, maybe a new plants and photos. A foldable laundry bag is a must.

Hi there,

I totally understand what you are feeling, packing for university can be quite overwhelming! I remember feeling so anxious about packing everything before I first moved into my flat at the University of Southampton.

Based on my experience, I think it is extremely helpful to make a checklist. This will help ensure you pack effectively and will reduce the chances of you forgetting something important! You think about essentials like important documents, bedding, kitchen items, clothing (for different seasons), toiletries and electronics. It might also be useful to consider additional useful items like study supplies, decorative items, pictures, a small toolkit, laundry basket, first-aid kit, and much more!

I would also recommend to check with your accommodation if they provide items like kettles, toasters, irons, etc so that you don't have to pack them.

I hope this helps, and all the best!

If you have any further questions or need more advice, please feel free to ask and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Hi there,

When I came to university, I forgot quite a few items but you can always get most things once you've arrived if you need to. I think the most important things are: clothes, any electronics, bedding, towels, any decorations you might want in your room, pots, pans, cutlery and ID/passports etc.

Thinking back, I wish I made a list of any essentials that I couldn’t live without that are already in my room/house. I think that would be a great starting point before packing/buying things. 😊

Hope this helps!

Cutlery, Sauce pans and plates are really heavy I'd probably buy them once I'm there (provided it's not late at night) for sure bring a favorite plate, bowl or mug but mostly I'd buy stuff there places like Pound Strecher (or Super Super Hyper Ultra Mega Value when i was at uni) and Ikea are really good for stuff like that.

I am Also really worried I will forget something. I heard a checklist is good to make sure you have everything and even going over it multiple time to make sure you got everything. Def bring stuff to make your new room feel nice and your style

Don’t worry too much about forgetting things it’s not like you’re going into the wilderness there will be a town or city nearby even in places like Harts university London is available also there will be shops on campus in bigger university’s like Southampton it’s almost like it’s own village with shops pizza places bars restaurants and of course Southampton city centre was nearby I mean yes you needed a bus but they were fairly frequent and you got a free bus pass if you were in hallls. There was also a safety bus from one of the buildings on campus to make sure you could get home safely (the campus is Massive.) Portsmouth had something similar but being a City university it went from opposite the SU all night to all the halls and trust me there are places in Portsmouth you DO NOT want to to walk around at night Solent didn’t have that but then Solent’s halls were right in the city centre.
