Hi froggy,

How many years of previous study do you have in higher education?

Can you confirm what type of course you are now looking to study?

Thanks, Clare

Hi Clare

I’m doing degree BA with my apprenticeship
The apprenticeship started March 24
I’ve attended uni for approx 7 days so far
I’m still working as above but intend to resign in approx 2 months so in total would have completed 5 months study (but probably about 2 weeks actual uni time)
I’m wanting to start a different 3yrs degree BA full time in Sept 24
Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Tom

Hi there. Would you be able to confirm what type of course you are looking to study? As in the course name/subject? Will you be receiving any sort of exit qualification for the current degree apprenticeship? Thanks, Leah.

Hi Leah

I won’t be exiting with any qualification as I’ll have only done max 5 months of the 3,yrs course
I want to do a BA in English at Uni Sept 24

Thanks

Thanks for confirming. Student Finance uses this calculation to work out how much funding you have left:

New course length + Additional Year Previous study years

For example, your new course is 3 years long, your calculation would be:

3 + 1 1 = 3 years entitlement

We do not take any part time previous study into account for full time course, and vice versa.

Even if you didn't complete a full year in the current course, we still take this into account. So, you have enough funding left to apply for a new course, but you don't have he additional year for any repeats.

If you ever had to repeat a year of the new course, we would require evidence of extenuating circumstances to consider awarding you a year of Tuition Fee back. You can find more information about this here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/going-back-to-uni-or-repeating-a-year

Thanks, Leah.

Hi Leah
Thanks for this
So my uni attendance is part time as part of a full employment apprenticeship
I’ve literally been to uni for 7 days so far
Therefore would Student Finance class this as part time and so I would be eligible for the 3+1 yrs full funding for my new course ?

Rgds

Hi Tom,

If it was part time and no qualification was gained, then yes you would be entitled to the full duration of the course with an additional year if you require a repeat year.

Thanks, Clare
